Dowry is a centuries-old tradition in South Asia. It is a
practice of giving gifts to the girl (bride)and groom’s family. One may find it
a harmless thing as who doesn’t like to give gifts to his/her daughter on her
wedding. The dowry takes another meaning when groom’s family demands it at the time of wedding. Sometimes, these demands exceed the
financial capacity of bride’s family. It is now common for groom’s family to
demand heavy cash, gold and even expensive cars. It doesn’t affect the wealthy people as they give every
luxurious thing to their daughters in the name of dowry which creates a social
competition in society.
The practice started by wealthy people has to be
followed by everyone (rich or poor) as the groom’s family demands so. This trend
of expensive dowry has become too common in Pakistani society that girls stay
unmarried because their parents cannot give dowry. Some parents take loans to
give dowry and get their daughters married. If we go deeper, we will find that
this dark system is rooted in our cultureaspeople think that dowry plays a
major role in success of a marriage creating more pressure on poor families.
Government had passed a number of laws on dowry restrictions but unfortunately no
law could be fully implemented and people are still giving dowries.

SOL: "Division of members into different classes according to their status"Social classes can be seen into three angles: - Prestige
- Wealth
- Power
Social class can be categorized into different classes that are as follows:Two classes: Blue collar & White collarThree classes: Blue collar, Gray collar & White collarFour classes: Lower class, Lower middle class, Upper middle class, Upper class.Five classes: Lower class, Working class, Lower middle class, Upper middle class, Upper class. In my point of view Upper class, Lower upper class and Lower middle class more involved in giving dowry. There are some reasons that are as follows:
- Prestige
- Wealth
- Power
- Upper class peoples are alot of rich their servants do their works.
- Lower upper class peoples became new rich they buy things or products to show their status.
- Upper middle class have keen interest in enjoying good life and have to maintain their standard in society.

SOL:
Dowry system is a great evil. Women's rights have been
exploited on the name of dowry system. Due to dowry system, neither the poor people get married their daughters nor they cease
them at their home. In addition their age is passing bit by bit. To avoid the misfortune and
grief, they suicide themselves. To meet the demand of dowry some lower class family girls try to earn money from evil
and unethical ways.
